The silkscreen process uses a mesh screen that could be made out of nylon. The mesh of this screen is typically 240 to 400 lines per inch.

  • The screen is coated with a light sensitive emulsion.
  • The positive film is put on top of the screen under a large glass and a vacuum sucks out all the air.
  • The film and screen are exposed to UV light, hardening the emulsion.
  • The screen is washed out with a solvent, leaving a negative image in the screen
  • the screen is put on the printing machine and flooded with ink
  • a squeegee pushes the ink through the screen image onto the CD surface
